How To Access and Trust Your Intuition

One of the most common questions I get is,”How do you know when it’s your intuition?”

I frequently speak to people who are amazingly intuitive, more intuitive than I am naturally, but they are still stuck.  They don’t think they’re getting intuitive hits.  They think it must be their imagination, or they’re making it up, or they’re wrong.

Did you catch the word that has them stuck?  It’s think.

Your intuition simply doesn’t come through by thinking things over, or second guessing them, or when you are logically planning things out.

I very often hear that people “don’t have the patience” or “don’t have the time” to sit down, get quiet, and listen to the silence.  Guess what?  If you haven’t found it yet, the place where you recognize your intuition is coming through, then you cannot walk around the world all busy doing your errands and also access your intuition.  After you know what it is, then you can.  Not before.

The people who say they don’t have the time and the patience are not just lazy.  They almost always follow up their remark by stating that they don’t believe what they are getting is “it.”

They don’t trust.

My favorite phrase of all time regarding intuitive hits is “TRUST WHAT YOU GET” (something I learned very early on from my intuitive pal Lisa).

When students of Psychic Sparks do their attunement to meet their conduit guide, they sometimes say that they saw or heard this or that, followed by the other entity over there, and then conclude that they must have been making the whole thing up.

This is what I tell them: did you follow my voice through the guided meditation?  Yes? Did you see what I told you to see?  Yes?  Then when I stopped talking completely and there was silence, and no further suggestions from me, did something happen?

They will say,”Yes.  My conduit guide showed up.”

THAT’S IT!

If no one was there, nothing would happen.

What is it that we are expecting to have happen, exactly?

When my conduit guide showed up, I was scared.  I knew my imagination wasn’t that good!

When I did my first readings and people validated what I told them, I’d get shivers in a certain place.  That’s real, folks.

Sometimes it’s humorous to me, because as the person is writing to me asking how they know if this or that intuitive hit is real, I can tell that it is, and with the next breath they will tell me that it isn’t.  They aren’t convinced until I validate it for them.

That’s just silly, because I’m not with them 99.99999% of the time.  They have to learn to trust what they get and be brave enough to share it.  Simple (and difficult) as that.

Believe that whatever popped in your head is the answer.

It’s a process.  You have to adjust your attitude and perspective if you are a non-believer.

The way to adjust your attitude and perspective is to learn how to dial in to your intuition.

You dial in to your intuition by becoming incredibly detailed in your observations.

You have the power within to encounter the tiniest of details that have encoded messages just for you.

This can be your soul calling you out.

It can be your spirit guides and assigned angels bringing little things to your attention.

It can be a whole host of things happening around you and within you, all of the time.  They are always happening.  Will you tune in to them?

This is where the Trust comes in and the Logic flies out the window.

Can You Give Me An Example Of How Intuition Works?

If you get a gut feeling, a sense, a knowing about someone else, yourself, a situation…

If your mind flashes back to some other time, place, or person…

If you think,”This person looks like that person…” and suddenly connect the dots mentally between one thing and another…

They are related.

So, pay attention to the intuitive hit you got in that split second.

If “this person looks like that person,” to me in my head or gut, but they are completely unrelated in my zone of logic, then…

They are related (intuition).  It’s not my mind playing tricks on me and they have nothing in common (logic overriding intuition and tamping it down to be squashed once again).

If they are related, HOW are they related?  Go with the very first thing that pops into your mind.

If nothing pops in, then leave it as an open question for your psyche to work on while you draw your attention back to the present, but don’t forget to come back to check.

While you are doing something completely different, these little thoughts and feelings “pop in” unannounced, from out of nowhere (intuitive hits).

“If You Ever Get That Funny Feeling…Please Don’t Ignore It”

There is a children’s book called Time To Pee! where the author Mo Willems says that, but it applies to your intuition, too.

When you receive a message (intuitive hit) what do you do with it?

If you ignore it, too often and too many times, then that intuitive facility rusts.

If you take action, by asking a question or confirming it with someone else…if you put yourself out there just slightly, just barely, into the zone where someone might laugh at you or where, for whatever reason, you feel just a teeny bit uncomfortable, then you will begin the process of being in tune with your intuition.

When you willingly, even with fear or trepidation, but willingly, allow yourself access to connecting your intuitive hits to the world around you, by making that call, taking that action, giving something a try “just in case” (your intuition was right)…

You leave a hole in the universe to swoop in and say,”This person is ready, it has begun, we’ll send more.”

You will receive more (must be tuned in to receive).

It will come in (like it always has) but you will see it, feel it, acknowledge it, it will compute.

Your logical mind will begin to say,”I’m not going anywhere but I am willing to take a backseat to what you are receiving, for now.  Don’t forget to call me back in when you’re through.”

We don’t discard our logical minds…we use them later on, where they rightly belong in the sequence of unfolding.

Somewhere in the process of being willing,  it begins to become second nature.

Dipping your toe into the water of trusting what intuition looks like, acts like, feels like, sounds like, tastes like and smells like (using all of your other senses, until this sixth sense becomes fully integrated) eventually brings you to the place where the hits just keep on coming and you simply know them when you see them.

Being Intuitive Doesn’t Mean You Have To Change

Okay, it’s true, you will change.  But…don’t let that fear of change and the unknown stop you from being a fully integrated you.

There is no perfection in this.

It doesn’t mean you will never be mean again.

Or annoyed.

Or triggered.

Or tested.

Or anything else…at all.

It just means you will be living as a fully integrated being…at least until we discover the seventh sense and begin work on that project.

We spoke before about our life plans that we made before we were born, our previous lifetimes.

They will start to intersect.  They become available to you. They start to pop in during the day (and night).

You begin to breathe that this life is not all that it seems to be, at all. You acknowledge that you may have a part to play that you agreed to do, for a purpose, to serve yourself or someone else, to play out your intertwined Karma…and it doesn’t always have you sitting pretty and smelling like a rose.  Sometimes it looks pretty ugly.

You know when you were sent somewhere to help someone.  You know when the right moment is.  You just breathe the grace in and breathe it right back out.

Then truly weird things begin to happen.  As I was writing this on Sunday morning, at my remote house in the woods, sitting on my back porch, one of my husband’s contractors came to see him.  My husband walked him right outside, even though I was sick and still in my pajamas at 11:30am, and said something like,”You should talk to her.  She likes things like ghosts.”  The man dived right into one of the more interesting discussions I’ve ever had about spirituality, delivered a few messages to me, and confused me on some issues.  But he showed up right out of nowhere, with no warning, and talked to me as if he’s been reading what I was writing and decided to chime on in.

Yup, synchronicities will happen.  Your mission is to play it cool when they do.

My son held up my hand lotion and said,”Here it is Mommy, it rolled under your seat,” when I hadn’t said a word about finding it, but had been thinking it.

My husband’s aunt died, and I knew it was going to happen.

A man appeared out of absolutely nowhere in a deserted area and shouted in my car window,”MAY GOD BLESS YOU!” in a way that had me wondering if he was homeless or if it was something not quite real happening.

Yup, all kinds of strange things will happen.

Are you in?

  1. One of my problems is feeling like I’m not intuitive because my experiences don’t match other people’s. I don’t see ghosts, angel, spirits or anything. If my spirit guides are chatting with me, I can’t hear anything. My intuitive hits come randomly and I have a really difficult time recognizing them when they come. I don’t know how to train myself to pay more attention to my intuition. Then, I’ll second guess myself and all that and end up more confused than before.

    • Tatiana, It is way more subtle that seeing full on appartitions and such. You may never “hear” anything, but instead get a gut instinct type feeling. You have to practice. If you directly ask your team for a sign (within a certain time frame, and be specific about what kind of sign), that is a good way to practice.

  2. Oh, yes, I am in! I *love* this, Julie…your style, clarity, message…*perfect*!

  3. Hi Julie

Intuition I guess would be liking asking for help and it shows up. Anyways I am thinking along this way.

I was asking for some changes, not quite sure as to what was stirring in my mind but harmony needed to be restored. So shortly after that I fell and broke my wrist. I was also seeking better health. With now time on my hand as all projects had to come to a screeching stop, I was able to look online. I had started a bit of research before the accident but have since found the answers to what I need. Even found some for my cat. Harmony that I was looking for appeared and in the form of helping me with what I could not do for myself.

When you are still and open things you want come to find you. May not always be in the form you were looking for, so I guess we just have to be flexible and be willing to receive.

    • Mary, YES, like asking for help and it shows up. I most notice my help coming in through sychnronistic events.

Sometimes when we seek better health we get injured just to shut us down long enough to heal (I would equate that to my 3 years off work also, same concept).

It is sentences like your last one that pinpoint for me that you completely understand this and are in the flow of receiving. Sometimes it just doesn’t come in the form we were hoping for or expecting, but come she does!

  4. YES! I am in. The things happening lately have been right on and the synchronicities have gotten stronger. It’s pretty mind blowing to me. Perfect timing again Julie, I’m sure this was written for a lot of people to read and relate to, and I totally got my message from it. SO spot on! 🙂

  5. Oooh… I really liked what you posted tonight, Julie. I get the hits a lot and they are usually pretty far out or they’re the kind that are followed by a facepalm. I think the big key is really faith. People say “I’m not gonna believe until I see it.” But sometimes especially in instances dealing with our intuition and signs from Spirit, we have to believe it before we see it.
There is much that has been said about faith, but how much do we even believe that? We have to make a conscious effort to be willing to believe, to take it seriously–yes, even and sometimes especially when it seems far out. That’s usually a tip off because we know our logical minds would never ever come up with something like that.
The last couple of years I’ve gotten weird signs and urgings to do things. Thank God I’m in mid-life crisis or I’d never have the moxie to go through with them. I’d have been too scared to even dip my toe in that water. But instead of fearing what bad could happen, I am reminded (by Higher Self, Spirit, or both) that something really great could come of it, and if I don’t take the chance, I’ll never know. So not only have I dipped my toe in the water a few times, I’ve gotten on the high dive, jumped off, and hollered, “Wooooo Hooo!” while I did it.
And then I did it again. 🙂
While this example does literally pertain to a recent episode at a swimming pool, it is also a metaphor for a lot that is coming along in my life. I am finally beginning to realize that if I’m going to make those dreams come true, which ties in with where I’m feeling led, I have to be bold enough to heed the signs when I get them. Besides, it sure makes life more interesting and fun to see what’s around the corner.
Some days it’s coming in so fast I can’t keep track. I try to gauge and see if it’s because my mind is clear or this or that. I get more signs and intuitive thoughts when I’m simply not fretting about the matter at hand. I really, really enjoy that feeling of being connected, so much, though, that when I don’t sense it, I’m rather disappointed. I wonder if this is just the way it is or if I’m still wet behind the ears in that department.

    • Ayla, Nope, that’s pretty much the way it is, it comes and goes. Sometimes we are just at work, or just brushing our teeth. I need breaks so that I can get to the work that is required in order to be ready for the next hurdle (or healing or…whatever). We do get marching orders a lot, and it feels to me like spirit pulls back a bit to just let us do what we need to do, then comes back in.

  6. Hi Julie,
Great post again! I am in! 🙂
There have been many instances of doubt along my path, but the universe ALWAYS sends me a sign of reassurance. Sometimes through symbols sometimes through others. I picture my guides rolling their eyes and saying ” really? doubt again? how many signs do we have to send” LOL..
For me, my confidence in trusting myself has come from doing practice readings for family and friends. I am slowly letting go of the fear of being wrong. I found this quote from Eleanor Roosevelt a while ago and keep it in my mind……
“Confidence comes from not always being right but from not fearing to be wrong”

And I agree with you Julie, sometimes the messages are just rushing in & sometimes it is just quietness.
To me, (I am mainly clairaudient) it is like a radio station, sometimes I can easily tune in loud and clear and other times it feels like three stations playing at once. When this happens I regroup-relax & and ask them to slow it down for me.

    In peace….
    Julie T

    • Julie, You always crack me up with your commentary on your guides. Rolling their eyes! I am pretty sure guides don’t do that but OTOH I do know the feeling, my guides surely have had their many moments with me as well 🙂 I like to think they are beyond that though and just wisely patient and knowing.

  7. I am getting better about recognizing the difference between desire and intuition.

  8. I have a good relationship with Intuition, Julie. Gut feeling is a staple in our family and we all just seem to “know” things. My son is especially blessed with that sense and will, without hesitation, say things, like for example: let’s not do this today, after we’ve spent time preparing for it. We trust him. Out of the blue, he can tell about a visitor we haven’t even been thinking of. My senses are tuned, too. I freak out when I just know things. 🙂 for sure.

I really enjoyed your post. And yes, I am in.

The doubters and the non-believers are afraid.

  9. Julie,
It’s so hard for me to trust my intuition because it whispers so quietly. This morning I had to add some bonus pendants to a client’s order. She hadn’t told me which ones she wanted so I was going to go ahead and surprise her with my choices rather than hold up the mailing times. I looked at the designs she had ordered and the thought came to me to give her 3 Butterfly pendants. I dismissed it in favor of giving her three different ones. After I’d painstakingly closed the package and prepared it for mailing, her email came through asking for – you guessed it – 3 Butterfly pendants! Augh! 😮 Next time I’m just going with it – no thinking necessary – hear and go!
    🙂
    Lori

    • Lol Lori! I find it funny how many times I had to go through that “augh!” moment before I began to trust that it wasn’t just some random thought floating around in my head for no good reason, but actually an intuitive message. That’s the perfect illustration of what I was trying to explain – we need to begin noticing, acknowledging, and automatically taking action on those messages 🙂

  10. So interesting that you mention shivers. I get shivers when someone says something that rings true to me. I never thought about that as an intuitive validation.
Galen Pearl recently posted..Quick and Easy Joy HabitsMy Profile

    • Galen, Yes, it is! When people learn to connect with their spiritual helpers it is also a very common sign that “angels are near.” In your context, it could be one of the senses that you employ regularly. You might also notice that the shivers happen in either the same or different parts of your body.

  11. Brilliant Julie, and at just the right time. Thank you! Catriona xx
