How To Know If You Just Got Scammed By A Psychic Intuitive

Yeah…ummm…I don’t think this is the place

How do you know if the psychic or intuitive you’re hiring for a spiritual reading is genuine and connected to spirit?  What steps can you take to ensure that you’re hiring the intuitive who is right for you?  Who can accurately answer your questions?

A reader asks,”What are the best questions to ask so you know you’re getting the truth?”

Inherent in that question is,”How do I know if the intuitive is for real?”

First, if you are a true skeptic, don’t get a reading.  You have to be open to receiving guidance.  People who walk into the experience on the hunt for something that doesn’t ring true are guaranteed to find it.  If you’re of that mindset, you will locate the one statement that doesn’t seem to fit and decide to throw the baby out with the bathwater.  That’s a waste of everyone’s time and energy and not what intuitives are here for.

Be a good consumer. Just like with everything else, there are people who are more skilled than others, and you will get a sense of this if you do your homework. Use your intuition.  Don’t just walk in to see someone at a Psychic Fair.  Don’t have a reading on a whim when you’ve put no energy into what your questions really are and aren’t genuinely in a place where you feel you’ve gone as far as you can go alone and could use some guidance.

Find your match.  There are truly all kinds of practitioners, with all kinds of methods.  The aura reader, the tarot card reader, the astrologist, the numerologist, the psychic, the intuitive, the spiritual advisor or counselor have one thing that differentiates them from one another:  they’re either right for you or wrong for you.

What are the best questions to ask an intuitive?

The only questions to ask are…the ones you want answered.

Don’t throw in “test questions.”  You will naturally get a response that rings so true that you will know the answers are just for you.  Your spiritual teams will volunteer this.  They hear you when you’re doubting, don’t you know!  Many times I have had people say that they asked ahead of time,”If this person is genuine, have her mention red shoelaces,” or something equally ridiculous, and there I am saying,”I’m seeing white shoes with red shoelaces, do you have any idea why?”  Please don’t mess with the intuitive!  Trust what you get.

Assume that the intuitive is good and has your best interests at heart as well as a direct line to your spirit guides, angels, and other members of your spiritual team.  Ask the intuitive what you would ask your spiritual team!

How To Know When It’s Time For an Intuitive Reading

(now the ears of my ears awake and

now the eyes of my eyes are opened)

– e.e. cummings from i thank You God for most this amazing

Did you just get an impulse or a nudge from spirit one day that said,”Oh that looks like something I’d like to do!  I feel like ordering that (or working with that person) right now!”?

Or, have you been feeling lost in your life and went searching for some answers, finding several people to do readings for you, and one just stuck out as “the one”?

Maybe one day you just “got a feeling” that you wanted a reading, out of the blue, or because your birthday is coming up, or it’s the new year, and you just let your fingers doing the walking?

All of the above qualify as “guided messages” from your spiritual team who are trying to point you in the right direction, to the right person, at the right time.

How To Know When You Are A Psychic Addict and Should Run From a Reading

If you ever get to the point that you are consulting with intuitive after psychic – all the while asking the SAME question – and pulling your own cards to check their work, then you are very far off track. Time for a deep breath. If there is one thing that is stuck in your mind, then you will never get a good answer until you calm down, relax your energy, and just live with “what is” for a while. Another way to do this is to just live your life and see what transpires.

How many readings have you had this year?  If it’s more than one with the same person, or maybe two to three overall, that may be too many.  At some point the intuitive is going to have to gently tell you to look back over the advice you’ve already received and decide if you really need more guidance or if perhaps you need to make decisions and take actions.

How To Know If You’ve Had A “Good” Reading

Assuming you’ve chosen wisely, readings are either “good” or “bad” depending upon your expectations, openness, and willingness to twist your mind slightly into a pretzel.

You either get it or you don’t.  If you don’t get it today you may get it tomorrow.  Sometimes a bad reading makes you think,“Hey, this person doesn’t have any answers for me.  I’ll go find someone else.”  Or it may make you realize,“Hey, this person doesn’t have any answers for me, I’d better look within.”  It depends upon which stage you are in, in your intuitive development, and in your life experience.

We’ve all had readings where we anxiously awaited the results and looked into every corner of every line for the meaning we were searching for, or maybe the answer we were hoping for.  That’s akin to giving your authority away, in a sense.  If it seems wrong to you, after you’ve really given it serious consideration, then don’t listen!

Sometimes we do just feel like we need a little validation.  Most often, readings will confirm what you already knew in your heart.

Look for direct validations of information that is so personal to you that the intuitive simply could not know.

Why You Don’t Always Get Anwers To All Your Questions

I’ve had moments when I wondered,”If this person is intuitive, how come they don’t have answers to my questions?”

I’ve had moments when I’ve been asked if I wanted a reading and my heart’s answer was,”No thanks, I’m good.”

Assuming you’ve found an excellent intuitive, you may not get answers to your questions because spirit simply did not communicate them.  Why?  You’re not ready, you need to do more work first, or someone else is involved and there is no fate attached to the outcome, so things still need to unfold.  Sometimes this comes through as “no answer” and other times it comes through as a series of steps or directional advice: “if this, then that; if that, then this.”

Look, some people are very intuitive and they feel that the hardest person to get an answer for is themself.  I have felt that way.  Some intuitives will always want to bounce their thoughts and situations off an intuitive colleague or friend.  Others just innately or eventually feel that at some point (or always) they just know there is one person walking their path and that’s the one person with the answers.  Most of our learning comes with the unfolding of our lives.

Here’s the thing about messages that come in from spiritual teams: they are generally not completely direct and obvious. They usually include at least some elements that need to be decoded or thought upon for a bit before you get it. If you get a reading and everything seems incredibly straightforward (you’ll meet your soul mate this year and a new job is coming in July!), then either you’ve happened upon someone who makes this stuff up, or you’ve happened upon an intuitive who won’t share the “weird stuff that makes no obvious sense.” Sometimes the weird stuff is the most important message right from your guides.

By “weird stuff” I mean the things that make me sound like I have no idea what I’m talking about.  That’s because I don’t.  I am simply passing along what spirit is showing and telling me.  For instance I had a reading recently where I saw and heard a robin, and later in the reading I got the name Robin.  I also saw a little boy.  The subject of the intuitive questions had absolutely nothing to do with this – it was about career.  So how weird does it sound when I answer a career question with seeing a little boy and birds?  Turns out, the man often calls his son Robin (as in, Batman and) as a nickname.  I didn’t know that – he had to tell me.  That is a direct validation from his team to him.”Hey, we’re really here and talking to her, so pay attention to everything else we have to say as well.”

I’ve also had the reverse – where I get very little, the person went into it knowing I wasn’t going to get anything much, and then blamed me for it.  How did they know?  They are intuitive themselves, spoke to their team, and their team told them not to get a reading.  I have to sigh at this kind of thing, but what can I do?  Intuitives DO NOT get information that you are not supposed to get at this time.  If they try, there are energetic consequences for them.  It IS a privilege to be an intuitive, and trust me, if that privilege is abused it won’t be retained for long.  So I let these kind of situations be okay with me, because even if I don’t understand why right now, I do understand that there is some kind of purpose to the dance of it all.

What Kind Of Reading or Intuitive Should You Be Looking For?

If you’re a fan of A Clear Sign then you are unlikely to be a patron of the unicorn, fairies and angel vagueness type of intuitive.  There is nothing wrong with them, and I can listen to a podcast for twenty minutes and feel like,”What just happened?”  The answer I get is,”Nothing.  I just wasted twenty minutes on cotton candy fluff.”  Some people however really DO get something out of that, even if it’s just their blood pressure going down.

Spirit will guide you, so if you feel compelled (or called) to go to a specific person for a reading on Tuesday of next week, do it.  I promise that if you follow your gut, you are being brought to the right person at the right time.  Who knows, maybe they just found out some information that they will immediately use to help you.  Maybe they have a talent for expressing themselves in the exact way that you need to hear it for it to get through and sink in.  Whatever the reason, know that there is one.  None of this happens for no reason.  There is a purpose to it all.  Really.

Are You A Good Candidate For A Reading?

I encourage you to have a good look in your heart before you order a reading with anyone.  That’s why I ask you for three focus questions when you order a reading from me.  You will find out in that process if you’ve already answered your own questions.  You will discern if the questions you have right now are truly worth the money spent on getting answers and guidance.

I have a godawful memory, but when it comes to intuitive readings I remember your energy.  I also will remember what came out in your reading, especially when it’s one subtle thing that seemed out of place, or a prediction.  The question is, do YOU remember it?

Sometimes people act like they forget that I once gave them intuitive advice, especially when I do a “quick question and answer session” for free.  If they’ve paid for it, even if it was just a few dollars, they seem to have much better recall.  Curious, isn’t it?  You don’t always get what you pay for – sometimes free is like a gift from heaven.  You do however need to return the favor, to someone, in the form of energy if not cash, or it tends to back up on you.  So if you’re always the person who signs up when it’s free, you never pay anyone, and it never crosses your mind to say,”Oh I’ll skip that one, someone else out there needs it more than me,” you are out of balance.

I got some guidance for someone around the name of a future long-term partner.  We were chatting and that (unusual) name came up. I said,’Oh, remember when I gave you that name last year?!”  Nope.  If this were me and someone said,”I’m hearing your future husband’s name is Bernard,” I would remember that should I actually (for the first time in my life) meet a man named Bernard, in any context.

I have people who write back to me a long time later and tell me,”I had no idea what you were talking about when you said that I had a talent for health care, but then my mother got sick and I got involved with homeopathy and now I’m in school to become an acupuncturist.”  Bingo!  Be one of these people – remember what spirit told you through another human being and then appreciate it by acknowledging it. That lets spirit know,”Hey this person is paying attention, send more things his or her way!” and it also sometimes helps the intuitive.  You’ll never know why or how, but these things can be so subtle and it really does validate for the intuitive something you may never know or understand but you can be  a party to, which is one form of returning the gift.

Sometimes things take years to come into being.  Will you remember that your guides put that seed of thought in your head five years ago?

You Should Always Ask For References or Read The Testimonials

Unless you’re absolutely certain and feel synchronicity or signs have led you right to the intuitive, choosing one isn’t that hard.  Follow your gut, ask for references or testimonials, ask your friends who they like and why, follow the intuitive for a while if they have a blog.

Know what you are looking for before you hire someone to do a reading for you, and then be open to the outcome.

I have recently updated my Testimonials page.  I haven’t historically asked for them but since I released Psychic Sparks I am getting a lot of requests.  If you have had a reading with me and would like to contribute your thoughts, I would so appreciate it!  You can order a reading here.  If you would like a recommendation to another intuitive who has a different style or does very specific types of readings, contact me and I will be happy to refer you on to some incredible intuitives who I have had readings with and can vouch for 100%.

Have you ever had a fantastic reading?  Have you ever had a reading that you thought was all wrong?  I’ve had both and would love to chat with you about it in the Comments.  Tell us your story and feel free to ask questions about things that still don’t make sense or ring true – often I can give you insight into what you may not be seeing just yet and I will be happy to help if I can.

  1. Bravo! Bravo! Bravo! I wish I could have said all this myself because it’s truer than true.

As someone who has gotten crap readings with crap results (because I put no effort or thought into my question), I second that interesting bit of your advice. (Okay, fine. I second ALL of it.)

An intuitive and/or psychic reading really IS a sacred thing and should be treated that way (even if there is just the energy exchange of appreciation) – I’ve learned that myself and the more you are open to what shows up for you, in the way it shows up and at exactly the time it does, the more you will see it and take action.

One of your very best posts, Julie. Resonated hardcore. Thank you.

    • Thanks, Lisa! I went long on this one but I guess I had a lot to say 🙂 It’s not easy to understand how it all unfolds if you’re on the other side of a reading and have never done this kind of work. I’ve saved most of my readings and it’s always fun to go back and see how it all turned out. There’s some major learning in there!

  2. Yes, if you are already someone who has a hard time believing, why put yourself through that! It’s so much more challenging… carrying around all that “Prove IT To Me” energy.

I remember once my mother saw a psychic, and the next day we were at the grocery store and she was buying these massive (and I do mean massive) cans of coffee. When I asked her, she said the psychic told her to put the cans on the train tracks near our home to clear out some bad energy.

Um, it gets worse, but I’ll spare you.

My way is to choose the ones radiating loving kindness – you can tell just by feel who they are. They won’t ask you to do anything whacky or scare you or ask for more and more money.

If they have a goat, it’s even better! Just clinches the whole thing! xo

    • LOL on the goat. Well, at least I can say yes, I am a real person with real problems, just like anyone else! However I will also say that there are far fewer problems since I started following my intuition 🙂

When people break out the sage and start ordering energy to “be gone!” or start talking coffee cans, they are on the wrong track (little pun for you there). I think they have the wrong impression on how this whole shebang seems to flow.

      • YES, our authentic guts do not hop on one foot while shaking rattles while wearing garlic necklaces!

What I do love about you is your real-ness. It’s a good thing in our field to keep demystifying the story that “over here” life is all peaches and cream. We just handle it differently, using the tools we have honed.

        • I am constantly amused by that impression – just because we are intuitive doesn’t mean we are the Buddha. Although technically, everyone is kind of the Buddah. But you know what I mean. To pretend otherwise is just…pretending. Everyone is here for Earth School, including us chickens 🙂 Or ummm…goats!

          • Well, I do have the Buddha belly Julie. Or maybe it’s more of a Mayan goddess belly. You have a sacred goat – that does make you kind of a weird o now, ha ha ha. I do know what you mean – it’s a painful thing, and I keep adding to my list of things to write about on this topic – the people who are posers are suffering the most! xox

Twice I had someone come up with no answer…and one of those times I KNEW it might happen, for some reason- even wondered if I should include a ‘back up’ question in case that other one got zero hits. I did not want to come up empt handed. Another reader when this happened just offered ‘maybe the timing is off… come back and ask me that question again and let’s see if anything comes of it then’. I found this very kind- instead of saying ‘oh well sorry!’ he allowed us to revisit it in the future. I got the feeling he was in it not just to make money/support himself but he actually cared that someone was confused/concerned at the lack off answer. That gesture meant a LOT to me and I still have not taken him up on it, perhaps because I sense it’s no answer yet? But he seemed legit.

I have had about 5 readings . One was not so great- and made me feel freaked out. She said she had to take time doing the reading because ‘the energy was like touching a ‘hot stove’- a lot of spirit/energy was around our family..’ as the kids would say ‘LOL WUT?’ Do you have any idea what on earth that ominous comment means?! She seemed pretty genuine and testimonials were good, etc. I was most troubled by that comment though. In her defense, she did not subsequently ask me for extra shekels to banish any curses, etc:) She wasn’t a shady ‘lifting curses’ type I just thought that comment was super freaky & disturbing.

    • Hi Anonymouse, Hmmm…I didn’t really take that as a negative or ominous, but I am optimistic that way. My first thought was having a lot of energy around you is a GOOD thing. After all, loved ones watching over you would qualify, as would a gigantically huge team of angels and spirit guides, right?

I usually find that having a lot of energies show up is a good thing, and speaking to each one might make the reading take longer (just like a real conversation – talking to 10 people takes more time than talking to 2) but I’m not sure what the “hot stove” comment was about. It probably had more to do with the reader’s own challenges managing his/her energy, unless the final results you got sounded negative overall, in which case I would junk it. Usually there is a “point person”, like a primary spirit guide or an angel, who funnels all the input from all the energies to the intuitive. Kind of like a team leader.

That was nice of the first reader to offer to allow you to come back. Sometimes we don’t get answers to what’s asked, but we do get lots of other information that spirit seems to find a higher priority to get across to you, which we do. I do try to work through with the client why the information might not be forthcoming. Usually I can figure it out but not always.

  4. Hi Julie

Thank you for explaining how things really work. I have not had a genuine sought after reading and not so sure I would want to.

Many years ago when I was in high school a few girls had played with a Ouija board. They came back to school and told me they had asked who I was going to marry and it told them it was GS. Didn’t not know any guy with those initials. I dismissed the thought, well at least until a few years after I was married and happened to recall the conversation…I was now married to GS! Did play a little bit with the board, but have a bit of reluctance to try it much.

Now aura makes me wonder. I have not seen any but I have had the presence of blankness around a couple of people and it has taken me back a few steps and raced my heart ( a doom feeling transpired). I was at my vet’s office and when I seen him that one day I had that feeling, it was quite frightening. He died about 2 weeks after that. Another time I was at work in the shipping office and we had a driver come in to take our shipment across the country and into Canada. It was normal for every week for this to happen. But this driver I had the same feeling I had with the vet, it was a bit unnerving. I also had prior to the day the driver showed up, asked a worker what the value he wanted me to use for his project that was going on the shipment (this was not normally done). Apparently half way across the US there was a terrible accident and the driver was badly hurt and had to be airlifted to the hospital. (Don’t know if he survived or not.)

Thank you for a better understanding on how all this works.

Mary Stephenson recently posted..Perhaps We Are All Born To Be TeachersMy Profile

    • Hi Mary, The thing about ouija boards is that you don’t usually know who you are talking to, so you can pick up a lot of ghosts/negative or uncontrolled energies. This one happened to be right (always cool!) but I tell people to stay far, far away from ouija boards unless they know exactly what they are doing (and in that case, they wouldn’t really need one, so death to the ouija board! lol)

You can pick up a ton of information just looking at someone and detecting what’s happening in their field (or aura). You sound like you have found a “code” or “key” that lets you know someone is going to die. It’s very common for intuitives to have that kind of “key” that spirit uses over and over to let them know what’s up. It can come in any form, vision is just one. That’s neat though – although probably disconcerting because really, do we want or need to see death?? The positive you might take from this is…if you can see that, what else might you be able to see? Also, if you prefer NOT to have this information you can simply tell that to your team (just think it or say it out loud when no one’s looking!) and it will disappear. This kind of experience can be controlled “at your will.”

  5. anonymouse says:

Yeah the hot stove made me wonder if it was bad- BUUUT the reading overall was generally positive-as in did not make me feel bad things were afoot. I think maybe she just had a lot of info? I must say I am shocked at some of the sites I have seen where I have read outrageous claims being made. It happens. I agree you though if we listen to our instincts we can be steered to the *right* reader for us. It’s like with doctors- one size doesn’t fit all. Some like blunt, some like hearts and flowers, etc.

    • “Heat” or “hot” is usually associated with healing energy. Like I’ve had intuitives put my hand between theirs, a couple of inches away, and ask me if I can feel the heat. The most recent one said that when she first tuned in to me, the guides left her hands “burning hot” so she wouldn’t forget to tell me that I am a healer. Sounds funny but it is a pretty common thing!

  6. You make some great points here, Julie. I agree that it’s usually important to choose a reader you simply feel drawn to. I find that that’s how it works with most of my clients, and once I’ve learned a little more about them, I often find that they are of a similar personality type to me (or one of a smaller group of types), and they somehow just knew that I was someone they would be able to relate to, in the same way that we make other friends and acquaintances. I think we are all capable of reading each other’s auras at some level, and that this is often how clients find the right readers. So do trust your instincts.

I do have to say that I’ve had some good readings at psychic fairs, though. It depends on the place you go, and how well they vet their employees. My local place is quite good, and all of their readers have something to offer. Going to a fair can be a good way to try out a reader, since sometimes you can see them for shorter periods of time for less money than usual, and then go back later if you liked the reading. I’ve done that as well. Occasionally I even like to let Spirit pick the reader for me at a fair, just by seeing who is available when I walk in. Sometimes synchronicity is a good decision maker. 🙂

    • Hi Jen, Yes I get types of people too, often writers and people connected to Mary or other specific entities, like Raphael. People do seem drawn toward us just like friends would be – I like that analogy 🙂

I was thinking more of like going to the county fair and going to a stand that had a psychic. It’s probably not fair to say this for everyone, but for me if I saw 100 people in a day I would be wiped out just like the last time I did a “one free quick intuitive questions and answer”. I read for some huge number of people and I was wiped out for a week, even going into it with all systems go. I’ve never actually been to a psychic fair where it’s a regular place and a number of readers are all located under the same roof. If I ever get to Maine, maybe you’d take me there 🙂

      • Totally! It’s a great place – Leapin’ Lizards. They have a larger one in Portland and a smaller store in Freeport. I know them well by now, and they have a number of good readers. There’s a psychic/crystal fair coming up on the 14th, in fact, and I always go to those. So much fun! 🙂

Still can’t figure why they call it Leapin’ Lizards, though – I would never guess it was a woo store by the name.

P.S. Next time you do a quick intuitive session, maybe just set a limit of readees. 🙂
Jennifer Flint ~ The Aura Reader recently posted..Cute video of Sleepy MeerkatMy Profile

        • Leapin’ Lizards?? There HAS to be story behind that name!

I doubt very much that I will feel compelled to do a massive event like that again. I’ve been asked to do a call-in show where a million people call in and that’s a no. Ten short ones or three full readings is my current absolute max per day. At this stage I pick and choose people and just gift it to them unexpectedly as the spirit moves me (so to speak). I do like doing short ones, they are the most fun.

  7. Anne McCarroll says:

Yay for this post you’ve written- I was explaining to a friend the other day why readings are not about the reader at all- that we are here to pass along important info – minus the drama and dancing unicorns. She was surprised, thinking that my ‘job’ as an intuitive was to play ’20 questions’, basically, and reveal her future. (Eye roll, please) – but then, I think we fight that stereotype from the start. I mean, I have a heck of a scarf collection, but I don’t wrap them around my head and tie jingle bells to my ankles and wrists. I could, I guess, for effect, but I’m more of a ‘no unicorn zone’ kind of gal…just sayin.

    • Anne, You know you’ve just doomed me to a reading which features a dancing unicorn, right? 🙂

I know most people who are actually interested in intuition think of how it’s accessed very differently. They may never have even thought about what they are doing or who they might be speaking to. But you know what? I’ve rarely had a reading where anyone explained to me where it was coming from! So that could give the impression that the focus is on the person doing the reading, or that it comes from any old place. Not so but how many people stop to think and ask?

  8. Anne McCarroll says:

….a dancing purple unicorn that, upon arrival, will turn to you and start singing, ‘Don’t Stop Believing’.
let me know his message, if it goes beyond that. 🙂

  9. I have always been very careful with my energy, I just didn’t always know why (meaning I wasn’t using intentional discernment, I just knew not to “play with energy”.) Then, when energy healers and intuitives became more mainstream, my friends would play with energy for practice. I had heard about some experiences that really went sour, and I didn’t want to be a part of that.

There is only one person in the last few years that I allowed to work with my energy (and will ask to assist me if I am “stuck”), until last year when I opened just a bit more and did engage in a few readings as a participant. My intention in opening a bit was to receive affirmation during a huge transition. Clarity comes naturally to me, so I can read myself quite well (the challenge is I don’t always love what I see, or wish to “know”, because it requires change, or some truth I really didn’t want to deal with, so there were a few years I would clutter the moment so as not to receive clarity). I think people like yourself and a few peers do an excellent job of instructing the public, and I love that.

This is my personal bias…I don’t believe that external props are necessary (for myself personally in my life I use crystals and aromatherapy and rituals because I understand and my being likes that, but I don’t share it in my practice with public). So, if someone does have external props my mind thinks it might not be authentic.

I have been to psychic fairs, and I love the energy in them, but I wouldn’t read at one, because, as you say, multiple readings in one day, of various energy, can be exhausting. I did spend an entire day telling each vendor thank you, and that was more my style!

I love this article, I love the straight-forward way you explain and share, and I know that those who read this will benefit from it. (and, if there was a dancing purple unicorn that was singing “Don’t Stop Believing” I would definitely dance and sing along, because that’s just who I am *grin*)
Joy recently posted..The Energy of Believing in PossibilityMy Profile

    • Hi Joy, I was just thinking of you earlier today, I wanted to check in and see how the 30 days is going on your end. I am really enjoying it!

That’s funny about the props. I don’t use them in a reading, but I will occasionally pull cards for people when I am looking for depth or confirmation in a quick one question read where I haven’t met with their spiritual team specifically but just automatically downloaded the information. It’s pretty rare, though. Everyone works differently and I assume in the perfect way for them.

You know, if the dancing AND singing purple unicorn turns up, my jaw will drop. And not too much surprises me anymore!

Enjoyable read as usual, Julie! Have I told you how much I enjoy your blogs? I do hope you’ll write something up on Near Death Experiences (I think I told you about the book I read – Proof of Heaven). Would love to have a book club with you on it! Much more interesting than the insurance world.

Anyway – I remember being at a bar in Atlanta YEARS ago and there was someone there doing palm readings. I got one done, but the sad thing was I couldn’t hear hardly anything because the bar was so loud. If she said something profound or tried to warn me, it was completely lost. So another tip – don’t get any type of reading done in a loud environment!

You’re the only intuitive reading I’ve had and I think you’re legit. Interestingly, we never have had our phone call to talk about it – which makes me wonder if I am still not ready to deal with all you wrote. I think I’ll read it again tonight with a glass of wine.

    • Hi Mary, If I ever get through the 52 books I have waiting here to be read, we shall do that book club. You know, I have had a couple of near death experiences in almost-drownings so I could tell you about that 🙂 I talk to spirit all of the time so that IS my proof of the afterlife. Well, it’s enough to convince me!

Good point on the loud environment. I can’t intentionally do a reading in a noisy place, but actually I was once in a bar with a friend and I started seeing images over his left shoulder (what I normally see in a reading in meditation), so I guess if there’s a message that wants to come through, it’s coming no matter what! Complete silence is ideal for me but it works other ways.

YES you were supposed to call me! I do have people who like to run away from me, you wouldn’t be the first 🙂 But Derek will be in Antigua for four days starting tomorrow so there’s always THIS WEEKEND, hint hint. We don’t have to talk about your reading. Let me know what the wine says about that 🙂

  11. I have had very good experiences with psychics, astrologers, intuitive readers over the years. Most recently with Jennifer Flint (see above comments). I don’t consult folks often, just when I get that nudge, as you describe. If I’m drawn to someone, then I think there is a reason. Great advice you’ve offered here. It’s a bit of a circle, but it’s true, to say that you should trust your intuition about getting an intuitive reading!

    • I totally agree – we get nudges to do things for a reason! I often get told why/how the person came to me for a reading and the stories are full of synchronicity. I love Jen’s work too – she is so much more than “the aura reader.” Funny, I think you were commenting here as I was commenting at your place!

  12. Hi Julie,

I’ve had some experience with psychic readings. Some I’ve felt that were well worth my time and money and some not so much. I haven’t had a reading in awhile, but have been thinking about it lately. I find them helpful, and can be comforting. Thank you for your information about choosing your readings carefully. Using your intuition before you agree to the reading can make all the difference.

    • Cathy, Thank you for stopping by 🙂 You never quite know what type of messages you will receive, nor in what style, but it’s always interesting to find out. If you find them comforting it sounds like your guides are coming through in the readings and steering you to the right people.

  13. Hi Julie,
I’ve had some great readings including one that described my three children before the 3rd one was even born. This reading has been very accurate all these years. I’ve had some others, too, which have been amazing. I’m glad I’ve had good experiences!
Glad to finally make it over to your blog!

  14. Hi Julie,
I’ve only had a few various readings so far and they’ve all been good.I’ve trusted my intuition in getting them – the nudges which said it felt right. The first formal reading I had was in Greece and it was a Tarot Card reading. It was really cool
I think you hit the nail on the head when you said it has to feel right. Chances are you already know the essence of what will come out of the reading at least that’s been my experience. What’s up with that?

    • Hi Lori, Probably it’s just that we are all in really good touch with our intuition, and we kind of know what’s going on or what we need to do. It’s just that we may be missing some pieces, or we get curious about whether or not we might be, so we ask – and usually what we get is confirmation, and hopefully also some additional insights.

  15. Hey Julie,

A couple years ago my Mom and I went with a friend to a physic fair upon my friend’s recommendation. My Mom is the one that really had the questions she wanted answered and she was very specific. Now I knew the lady wasn’t ringing true by the way she answered them. It had to do with my Dad so she told Mom stuff he was saying and that was NOT my Dad.

This same friend of mine that’s a physic as well “read me” and a lot of what she said was not true either. Her reasoning is that “things change” so I’m not sure I bought that or not.

I’ve had some readings though and they were pretty spot on and then somethings they predicted did happen so I’ve always been open to it. Never walked in wanting to test them. I guess I just don’t fully understand how that all works but I do admire those that have the ability. I find that impressive myself.

So one lesson I did learn! No more physic fairs.

    • Hi Adrienne, It can be hard to read friends. It’s much easier to read for people you know nothing about (or I find that to be true). Your friend may also have a different perspective on it than you, so you never know. But if it’s not true then it’s just not true. If it’s still not true in 5 years…!

I have some people who I just don’t see as clearly as others. I never have gotten a client I can’t read, but then again, I think they are sent to me specially for that purpose. There are other people though where I know something about them and it can be close but not quite. I have an online friend who asked me out of the blue once to confirm what I was seeing. I had described a person. She then asked,”Where does he live, then?” The guides hadn’t brought that through at all, and that’s like a test question. They did pop a state into my head, which kind of surprised me, but I wasn’t so sure. The friend said I was wrong. I found out long afterward that although the person didn’t live in the state, they lived within 20 miles of the border of that state – which is pretty good, considering it could have been anywhere in the whole wide world!

  16. What a brilliant article! I really wish I’d written it as it expresses so many ideas so well, from being ready for a reading. One good way of dealing with remembering the reading is to get a recording or do an email reading, that way you can refer back to it later. I often get readings that its not until much later that it makes sense.

I also strongly agree with not getting addicted to readings. A good psychic will not answer the same question twice in a row, but instead let the person know it’s time to wait and see what happens with the reading they have. Readings should be empowering but become less so if people do not give them a chance to come true.
